How does it work?

A skin laxity treatment, Profhilo® uses patented technologies engineered for ‘skin remodelling’, a revolutionary concept of ‘curling’ wrinkles rather than ‘filling’ them. It effectively stimulates production of both your natural collagen and elastin to renew your skin from within. Taking as little as 10 minutes to complete, this hyaluronic acid treatment works by stimulating 4 different types of collagen and elastin due to the slow release of hyaluronic acid, and it is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality.

Rather than replacing volume or creating a volumetric lift like other dermal fillers Profhilo® is able to create volume in the tissue where it is needed due to its high spreadability.

This characteristic of Profhilo® makes it an ideal treatment for improving elasticity and tightening areas such as the neck, around the mouth and hands without giving an artificially enhanced appearance.

Most clients request Profhilo® treatments in the submalar area (between the cheek and chin) to tighten skin and lift jowls. Profhilo will result in significantly noticeable skin tightening and give you a lifting effect between your cheek and chin in just 12 weeks (you will see a gradual improvement throughout). We advise that you have three treatments four weeks apart.

Am I a good candidate for profhilo®?

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid after we reach 30, and it is at this age that we start to consider preventative treatments.

This is the time when many people consider their first anti-wrinkle injections as the first lines start to appear. If you feel your facial tissue quality has dropped significantly, and that you may look older for your age, but are not ready for dermal fillers yet, Profhilo® may be the best treatment for you. There is no age upper limit either. In fact, in older patients, we have often seen more dramatic results. However, if you’re over 60 your treatment does need to be managed carefully – for example, if there are deep folds present or the skin has lost elasticity, then combination treatments that include Profhilo® may be more suitable. This is why a consultation with Dr. Kelleher prior to treatment is so important.

If you’re looking for very subtle results, this treatment delivers. However, if you’re looking for a lifting of the face, neck or any other area, then a combination approach with fillers or threads could be recommended.

what to expect from treatment?

After a consultation Dr. Kelleher can apply a numbing cream to the area to make the treatment more comfortable. Profhilo® diffuses within the tissue after injection and over a period of 4 weeks it stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It doesn’t need to be massaged and leaves no nodules. Due to its ability to spread, only 5 injection points on each side of the face are needed, which means many of our patients find this treatment more comfortable than others and numbing cream is unnecessary.

The first 2ml of Profhilo® is then injected using a technique called BAP (BIO AESTHETIC POINTS), the BAP technique is 5 entry points of injection for each side of the face.

Immediately after treatment there may be some redness at the injection site and you may experience some itching, tenderness and swelling in the treated area. This will generally disappear within 24-hours.

Results can be immediate. Client’s have noticed visible, natural-looking yet noticeable rejuvenation of the areas treated straight away after treatment. Increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin can be visible for up to six months’ post-treatment.

Profhilo® is not to be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For best results we recommend injecting 6ml of Profhilo®, 2ml in the initial treatment and a further 2ml monthly for two months. In some cases, where the signs of ageing are more extreme, you may require up to 8ml of product spread over 4 treatments.

Hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin leaving no trace. To keep the results a maintenance treatment every six months is necessary.

You can have Profhilo® treatment and continue with your day to day activities.

We recommend that you do not apply makeup or go to the gym, sauna, steam-room or go swimming on the same day as treatment. You should also avoid touching the injection site.

Profhilo® is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands. Increasingly, the neck is becoming a popular area to have Profhilo®, due to its ability to help reduce crepe-like skin and sagginess, and encourage a firmer appearance.

Is the treatment safe?

Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Over 150,000 patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo® is highly biocompatible because it is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. The product has also won numerous awards.

What is the difference between Profhilo® and Dermal Fillers?

Due to the way that Profhilo® is formulated, it is not a volumising treatment in the same way that dermal fillers are, and is not used to enhance specific areas of the face (e.g. lips, cheeks, chin). Profhilo® is primarily a hydrating treatment, and the Hyaluronic Acid it contains is dispersed evenly throughout the face, giving your skin a more plump and firm look overall.

What can I expect to see after treatment?

• It stimulates the skin to produce youth-boosting collagen and elastin.

• It enhances stem cell reproduction.

• Lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable.

• It can reverse the appearance of skin laxity (looseness and drooping) which tends to happen as we age.

• The skin appears more healthy and vibrant.

Increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin can be visible for up to six months’ post-treatment. However, this does depend upon the degree of correction required, your age and lifestyle.

Results appear usually after about four weeks and increase over time with new collagen and elastin forming. The effects are long-lasting. They typically last around 6 months and the feedback from our patients to date has been fantastic.

For best results three treatments of 2ml are recommended after week 4 and 8 after the first treatment. Maintenance treatments can be scheduled according to your body’s response to treatment, usually every 6 months afterwards.

How is it made?

NAHYCO™ Hybrid Technology combines innovation and complete safety with the production of stabilised hybrid hyaluronic acid cooperative complexes formed through a patented thermal process.

Owing to this new technology it was possible to combine 32mg of low molecular weight HA (L-HA: 80 - 100 KDa) and 32mg of high molecular weight HA (H-HA: 1100 - 1400 KDa) while maintaining complete manageability.

A total concentration of 64mg is produced which has never been achieved before precisely because of technological limitations. This process does not involve the use of chemical cross-linking agents, such as BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether), and the final product, PROFHILO®, is pure hyaluronic acid.
