Features Overview

I’m the certifiable skin newbie. I wash my face. I moisturise with an SPF > 15. I use additional sunscreen when I go for my yearly sunburn. I never wear makeup (does eyeliner count?). I’ve gone one step further and I use an all natural shampoo bar in the shower and an all natural bar of soap to cleanse my face. Getting rid of all the packaging and getting back to basics seemed like an appealing idea. So now the picture has been painted. I’m a marketing disaster and will probably go the way of my granny who had the softest but most wrinkly skin. She would have been in her sixties when I noticed this (young!) and that is my trajectory.

So i’m going to need a bit of convincing from our resident skin experts Liz and Emma to change my routine, or lack thereof. Is it too late for me? and do I care? Why is everything so expensive and why does some of it make me red. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. I seem to be highly sensitive to ingredients.

Skin Care for Beginners

This is the basic advice for people like me.

  1. Wash your face twice a day, not just once. With a cleanser. (Not just water ;-)). Here are a few basic cleansers that the gurus are recommending for me. If we find anymore that we like, we will update the list.

  2. Use a gentle exfoliant once or twice a week when cleansing.

  3. Use a high zinc sunscreen. Use it even when it isn’t sunny-which is nearly all the time in Ireland. Put it on every morning. This is the secret ingredient for reducing signs of aging and long term skin health.

  4. Moisturise every night. Make sure it’s the right fit for your skin type. We will address skin types elsewhere but here are some products we recommend for different skin types.
